Don't get me wrong, I love animals, but this recent thing with the rabbits on Robben Island has got me all in a tiz. South Africa has a 40% unemployment rate and to make matters worse, most of the people do not know where the next meal is coming from. So...
Wouldn't it be nice to select one thousand hungry people - who the previous residents of the island fought for - give them a free trip to the island (because they couldn't probably afford the fare anyway) - and let them hunt some bunny...with a free guided tour of the prison and some snacks afterwards.
Where are our priorities? Lest we forget they are (in no particular order):
- fight poverty
- food for everyone
- equality for our fellow man
- schooling for all our children
- jobs, jobs and more jobs (culling bunnies is a job too)
But ours are probably in a dark hole not dissimilar to a rabbit burrow.
Protect the flora - have a rabbit stew today.
